Laura Shepherd, Education Director, has enjoyed teaching for the Studio since June 2001. Laura is a graduate of Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music, where she received Bachelor's degrees in Music Education and Theatre. Some of her fondest college memories are of Directing The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan, both of which involved young actors from the Oberlin community as well as college students. She is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Educational Theatre from New York University through summer courses.

Laura loves working with kids of all ages, and spends as much time as she can directing productions and teaching singing classes with 3rd-10th graders; a dozen private voice students round out her schedule. Laura has Directed and Musically Directed Studio East ArtReach! productions at elementary schools all over the Eastside since 2002, and she also Musically Directed Into the Woods and Oklahoma! at Youth Theatre Northwest with middle and high school students. Most recently Laura had tons of fun directing Mulan Jr. - one of the Studio's Summer Stage Camps. This year she is proud to be teaching and directing once again in the Studio's Homeschool Program.

A company member of StoryBook Theater since 2001, Laura most recently appeared in The Frog Prince and The Ugly Duckling. You may have seen her at the Kirkland Performance Center as Fruma-Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof. Laura also sings joyfully with BlueStreet Voices, a vocal jazz ensemble active in the Seattle area since 2002. www.bluestreetvoices.com Twenty voices of pure jazz.
